Value retailer Matalan has lost two of its most senior directors.
Commercial director Adrian Mountford and sourcing director Margaret Melville, both of whom are board members, left the business in January.
Mountford has been at Matalan for two years, while Melville has worked there for around a decade.
They are not being replaced, and their work will be taken on by the remaining board members.
Their departures follow a 1.5% drop in the retailer’s Christmas sales, with results for the 13 weeks to November 24 falling by 0.41%. However, the business improved its margins, seeing EBITDA rise 8.6% to £45.3m.
At the time, Matalan chief executive Darren Blackhurst said he was cautious about the future, noting that the market was “challenging and competitive”. It is understood he is looking to “streamline” the board, although it is not clear whether more departures are on the cards.
Matalan declined to comment on the departures.
