Wellness footwear brand MBT is to reduce its wholesale stockist base in the UK by 20% over the next year as it shifts its focus to retail.
The brand, which has seven company-owned standalone stores and four outlet stores in the UK and 100 wholesale stockists, will consolidate its wholesale business as it looks to open a further 50-65 standalone stores here in the next four to five years through a mix of company-owned and franchise models.
To oversee this, Nico Van Offren who previously oversaw the UK and Ireland, will now be solely focused on the Bennelux region while Ben May, managing director for Spain and Portugal, takes responsibility for the UK and Ireland as well.
May said opening the right stores in the right locations would underline the brand’s physiological rather than toning credentials. “We are not a toning footwear brand and don’t want to be in the same bracket as brands like Reebok Easytone and Skechers Tone Ups,” he said.
