Microzine in administration

Microzine, the independent branded fashion store in Liverpool, has gone into administration.

The Microzine store on Liverpool’s Bold Street, which sells a mixture of premium sports fashion, furniture and gadgets, has closed. Owner and founder of the business Chris Lee, who is also managing director of JJB Sports’ lifestyle division, said that Microzine would live on as a web-only operation. Microzine already has a website which is operated under a separate company to the store.

Lee said that increased competition in the city, including the opening of the Liverpool One shopping centre had made trading difficult. He added: “Unfortunately the closure is due to a mixture of circumstances. It is very difficult for independent retailers at the moment.”

Lee was forced to close the Microzine store in London in the spring of last year. He blamed high rents for forcing independent retailers out of London.
