Monsoon boss in sudden exit

Monsoon managing director Matt Hudson has left the mainstream womenswear chain after just over a year in the role.

Peter Ridler, managing director worldwide at sister chain Accessorize, is now heading both businesses.

The retailer said in a statement that, as a result of Hudson’s departure, the retailer would reorganise its management structure and consolidate both brands.

The reason for Hudson’s departure is unclear, although sources close to the business said he had opted to leave. He joined Monsoon in April 2008 from Marks & Spencer, where he was trading director for womenswear, lingerie and girlswear.

In April, Accessorize put its shop staff into consultation after it said it needed to “retemplate” store working hours.

Monsoon announced in August that it would phase out menswear and strengthen womenswear. It will also introduce its first full lingerie collection into 100 stores this month.

Separately, Monsoon is recruiting a new buying and design director.
