More Original Shoe Company and Qube stores close

KPMG, administrators of Original Shoe Company and Qube, have closed a further 10 stores resulting in 121 more redundancies at JJB Sports’s lifestyle division.

KPMG closed 37 Original Shoe Company shops and eight Qube stores following its appointment last month. Those closures resulted in 438 redundancies.

A further eight Original Shoe Company stores and two Qube shops have closed this week. Original Shoe Company had a total of 64 shops and there were 13 Qube stores.

Richard Fleming, joint administrator and head of KPMG restructuring in the UK, said that more shops could shut.

He said: “We are still considering our options and are in dialogue with interested parties for the remaining business. However, the strategy as to the remaining stores is being reviewed on a daily basis, although further store closures are likely.”

Retail agent King Sturge has been appointed to dispose of the stores.
