Mr. Hare hops into Japan

Luxury men’s shoe brand Mr. Hare is expanding in Japan, following a deal with the Japanese distribution arm of The Bluebell Group.

The footwear label already had seven stockists in Japan and now plans to increase this number to 20 to 25 in the next year.

Owner Marc Hare said there was a “huge response” from the local consumer and the development of the business’ wholesale arm in the country was a “natural development” of the label’s international expansion.

He said: “Asia is a big market so we are going to start with Japan and see how it goes. Moving into China before we’re ready would be an easy way to make a huge mistake.”

The brand launched its flagship store on Stafford St, Mayfair in September and is also stocked in department stores including Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Liberty and Selfridges.

Mr. Hare is eyeing further development in the UK through the wholesale market and will attend the Pitti Uomo tradeshow for the first time this year. Wholesale prices range from £185 to £210 with a mark-up of 2.5 to 2.8.
