Marks & Spencer is to open in-store penny bazaars later this month selling Christmas stocking-fillers for 1p.
The bazaars will open for one day on Friday November 13, in all 300 main chain shops, 40 Simply Food stores and eight outlet shops. The bazaars will also sell goods including mugs and knickers for 1p.
M&S opened penny bazaars in May as part of its 125th birthday celebrations.
Although penny bazaar takings will go to local charities, the event is likely to drive footfall to M&S stores and customers will be given a voucher booklet entitling them to savings of 12.5% over the festive period.
M&S chairman Sir Stuart Rose said: “Our first penny bazaars went down a storm with our customers. We received unprecedented demand for the products and so much positive feedback that we’ve decided to do it again for Christmas.”
