Mulberry sales exceed expectations

Luxury brand Mulberry said its Christmas and January sales, which were better than it had predicted, would put its figures for the year end to March 31 ahead of market expectations.

At its interim results announcement last September, the business predicted its performance for the year would fall short of market predictions as consumer demand at its retail stores dropped off.
However, like-for-like sales increased by 30% during the Christmas week ended December 27 and throughout January.

Mulberry said the popularity of its Mitzy handbag collection had helped boost sales.
