J Crew drafts in new marketing head

American casualwear retailer J Crew has named Diego Scotti as its new senior vice president/chief marketing officer.

Scotti, who was most recently executive director of marketing for Vogue, will report to CEO Millard Drexler and creative director Jenna Lyons.

For the role, which was newly created for him, he will oversee all retail and direct marketing projects for J Crew and Madewell, the brand created by J Crew in 2006. He will also take on the remit formerly performed by Margo Fooshee, senior vice president of marketing and public relations, who left the company in August.

Prior to his work at Vogue, Scotti spent 15 years at American Express where he was head of global advertising and brand management and where he held several other domestic and international positions.

Drexler told J Crew staff in an internal memo on Thursday that Diego’s experience in business and fashion would be instrumental in building brand awareness, developing integrated marketing projects and improving customer experiences across social media, direct mail and in-store.
