M&S mulls Covent Garden store closure

Marks & Spencer is reportedly considering closing its 20,000 sq ft store in London’s Covent Garden.

The retailer is said to be in discussions with landlord The Mercers Company, the London Evening Standard has reported.

The store at 107-115 Long Acre sells clothing and food, and has a cafe. It employs 125 staff.

The news follows the announcement earlier this year that M&S intends to close six large and 34 smaller stores.

A spokesman for M&S told the newspaper: “We’re changing our UK store estate, opening new food halls and Simply Food stores, and improving our clothing and home stores.”
