100 indies are an inspiration to us all

Caroline Nodder

We all need some inspiration in our lives, especially when the dark winter days seem almost interminable and the doom and gloom mongers won’t shut up about the global financial meltdown.

We all need some inspiration in our lives, especially when the dark winter days seem almost interminable and the doom and gloom mongers won’t shut up about the global financial meltdown.

Luckily, this week we can bring you a huge dose of inspiration thanks to our annual list of the top 100 most Inspiring Indies.

Indies are the real heart of the fashion business and I was absolutely delighted to welcome so many of those on this year’s list to our Inspiring Indies party on Monday (13th February) – almost 450 people attended – to celebrate their success.

If you are looking for innovation, new brands, personalised service, and something truly unique on the shopping streets of Great Britain then look no further than the indie market. Many of our top brands have indies to thank for championing them when they first started out, and looking ahead I see their influence as being crucial in rejuvenating the high streets and reigniting consumer interest in town centres across the UK.

It was fantastic to hear from Mark Bage, co-owner of this year’s top Inspiring Indie – Sarah Coggles – on the night and he spoke from the heart when he said the accolade meant so much to his team because it is a peer-voted one. We asked the top 100 indies as nominated by our readers to rank each other in order to come up with our final list and each one of our 100 should be very proud indeed to have made the cut.

Congratulations to all of them and particularly to Mark and his team for their top ranking – pictures from this party will be in next week’s Drapers.

All in all it’s been an exciting week with the show season in full swing, and today marks the launch of London Fashion Week, which looks set to be bigger and better than ever.

Do keep up with all the latest from the shows over the coming days.
