20 BHS stores set to close this week

Administrators to BHS are set to close 20 stores this week, with up to 580 employees affected by the closures.

Stores including South Shields, Ashford, Truro, Preston, Stratford-upon-Avon and Warrington will close on July 23.

All the stores are leased properties and most employees are likely to be made redundant, although administrators are said to be looking to redeploy some.

Stock levels have been running low since the department store chain fell into administration in April.

Meanwhile, Mike Ashley’s bid for the BHS name and some stores has been rejected by administrators Duff & Phelps, sources have told the Express.

The bid from Sports Direct’s founder was said to be “not tenable” given their duty to the chain’s creditors. Talks are thought to be ongoing with other parties about some parts of the estate.

The full list to close this week is as follows:

  • South Shields
  • Slough
  • Truro
  • Hartlepool
  • Stirling

  • Preston
  • St Helens
