Since October 18, the UK Fashion & Textile Association (UKFT) has been based in smart new offices at 3 Queen Square, Bloomsbury. Although it was long planned, the departure from 5 Portland Place, opposite the BBC’s Broadcasting House, was a poignant occasion. The trade associations that preceded UKFT had been based there for almost 20 years and the nine floors of ‘5PP’ had been home to all manner of industry bodies.
But just as a retail store needs a revamp regularly, so an industry network like UKFT needs to keep relevant to its audience. The light and airy two floors at 3 Queen Square represent a new departure for UKFT that we hope will invigorate existing members and attract new ones, including those that might not have been interested in joining a trade association previously.
UKFT is unique among trade bodies because of its inclusiveness. Its members include trade associations, ranging from the British Fashion Council and Savile Row Bespoke Association to the Lancashire Textile Manufacturers’ and the Scottish Textile Industry associations. It also has direct membership among firms large and small in the fashion and textile sector. As well as specialists in areas like lingerie, kidswear and interior textiles, we embrace both UK-based technical and performance fabric producers and British companies that import from the global supply pool.
Our slogan, ‘One industry. One voice’, encapsulates our desire to weave together the various fibres of this uplifting and creative sector. But we can only be as good as the support and interest we have from the industry itself. I hope we can count on your active support as we continue to develop UKFT. We are the network for the entire textile and fashion industry. We hope our new home will inspire you to network with us.
