Abercrombie & Fitch January sales up

American casualwear giant Abercrombie & Fitch recorded an 8% rise in same store sales over the four weeks to January 30.

The group reported net sales of $222.8m (£141.3m) for the period, a 16% increase against net sales of $191.5m (£121.4m) for the four-week period ended January 31, 2009.

January comparable store sales increased by 8%.

For the fourth quarter, Abercrombie & Fitch reported a net sales decrease of 5% to $951m (£603m) from $998m (£633m) last year. Comparable store sales decreased 13% for the quarter.

As of January 30, 2010, the company completed the closure of its Ruehl operation.
