Adidas appoints new head of global operations

Adidas has appointed Martin Shankland as its new head of global operations, as incumbent Gil Steyaert steps down.  

Shankland will succeed Steyaert from 4 March, after the latter the board to pursue new career opportunities externally. 

Shankland joined Adidas in 1997. Since 2017, he has been managing director of Adidas emerging markets. 

Before that, he was managing director of Adidas Russia/CIS for 17 years.

Steyaert had worked at Adidas since 1999 and became head of global operations in 2017. He was managing director of Adidas Western Europe between 2013 and 2017.

Igor Landau, chairman of the supervisory board of Adidas, said: ”With Martin, we are pleased to appoint an excellent internal candidate to the executive board. Martin draws on long Adidas experience and brings outstanding leadership qualities to his new role on our executive board. Together with the entire executive board team, he will continue to execute our long-term ‘creating the new’ strategy successfully.”
