German sportswear giant Adidas has pledged to use ‘Better Cotton’ across its entire clothing offer by 2018 as part of its environmental strategy.
Adidas plans to have 40% of its cotton clothing offer made from ‘Better Cotton’ by 2015 and 100% by 2018. Better Cotton is an initiative which aims to improve the environmental impact in the cotton industry by reducing water consumption and the pesticide used in cotton farming.
The Adidas Group has presented an environmental strategy in which it plans to make improvements across the business, from offering more sustainable products to improving the group’s environmental footprint.
Herbert Hainer, Adidas Group chief executive officer, said: “Implementing environmental performance across our value chain is an important step to deliver sustainable operations over the long term. At the same time, our environmental strategy creates a sustainable platform for future performance improvements and innovations and is therefore essential for the success of our business.”
