Adult styles for kidswear

Kidswear trends for autumn 08 are predicted to more closely follow adult catwalk looks, with formal styles and tailoring set to be particularly strong.
Jackie Cook, a former head of kidswear buying at Selfridges and now owner of kids’ trend consultancy JCR, said: “We are seeing more trend translation from the catwalks, with kidswear designers picking out themes suitable for children.

“More austere, formal styles are coming through for autumn, such as culottes and tweed hacking jackets, which are adapted so they are easier for kids to move around in.”

Cook also believes layering will be key, as the unpredictable weather means transitional pieces are now more important in children’s wardrobes.

Cook will present a series of seminars on autumn 08 trends in conjunction with online trend analysis website WGSN at trade show Premier Kids this January. The exhibition runs from January 27-29 at the NEC in Birmingham.
