Alibaba appoints first UK boss

China’s biggest ecommerce operator Alibaba has hired its first UK managing director and outlined plans to expand in Europe.

Amee Chande’s CV includes two years at office supply company Staples and just over 18 months as MD of NutriCentre, a nutrition business owned by Tesco; a role she left in March.

Chandee will lead a team to bring “the best of the Alibaba ecosystem to UK businesses and consumers,” according to her description on LinkedIn.

Alibaba announced this week that it will open offices in France, Italy and Germany within the next few months.
