Alistair McGeorge abruptly quits Australian Woolworths

Ex-New Look chairman Alistair McGeorge has resigned from Australian discount retailer Big W, part of Woolworths, for health reasons, but the business revealed there had also been a complaint about his “verbal behaviour”.

McGeorge, who joined the firm in June 2014, has stepped down with immediate effect.

A statement said: “In the interests of transparency, Woolworths wishes to advise that there was a complaint about McGeorge’s behaviour in the workplace. The behaviour was verbal in nature. This complaint has been investigated and finalised and for legal reasons we are unable to make any further comment on this matter.”
