Amazon launches weather-personalised shopping

Amazon has launched a weather-based personalisation tool, which will tailor featured products according to browsers’ local weather conditions.

The function, which launched yesterday, was developed by Amazon based on seasonal sales research going back to 2013 and uses an algorithm to suggest weather-appropriate purchases based on consumer locations.

Amazon said it hoped the technology would give a better idea of when British consumers deemed summer to begin – historically Amazon has found the first Sunday in June to be key for summer purchases such as flipflops. Over the past three years it has seen a 380% jump in seasonal sales on the day, The Daily Telegraph has reported.
