Amazon sales rocket

Amazon’s sales grew by 34% year on year to $43.7bn (£33bn) in the third quarter, as it reported turnover from physical stores for the first time.

Net income edged up 1.6% to $256m (£195m) in the three months to the end of September, compared with the same period in 2016. 

Whole Foods, the grocery business Amazon acquired in August, contributed $1.3bn (£990m) to the group’s revenues.
