Amazon to boost London workforce by 3,300

Amazon has signed a deal to open a new London office in Shoreditch, where it will increase its workforce to 5,000 from its current 1,700 employees.

The Amazon office will take up over two thirds of the 600,000 sq ft office space at the £500m Principal Place development expected to open in 2017.

Amazon also plans to move all its corporate UK employees to one of three London offices by next summer.

The etailer’s UK managing director Christopher North said the new building will “support Amazon’s continued growth in the UK”.

Amazon currently has two corporate offices in London — 60 Holborn Viaduct which opened last year and the Amazon Development Centre, which opened on Glasshouse Yard, near the Barbican, in 2012.
