Amazon UK breaks weekly fashion record

Amazon UK enjoyed its biggest week ever for fashion sales by volume in the last week, with the etailer selling more than one million items of clothing and footwear.

Amazon said popular items snapped up over the seven days to November 30 included parka coats from Pretty Green and Frock & Frill 1920’s style dresses.

Over the past year Amazon has expanded its range of fashion brands, with more than 50 brands joining the site. New brands include Emporio Armani, Hoss Intropia, Ben Sherman and French Connection. During the year Amazon also launched a premium fashion store.

Amazon UK also recently launched an exclusive collection of silk scarves by designer brand Meadham Kirchhoff and sold out of one of the designs in just a week.

“Over the past 12 months we’ve made significant strides to become a one-stop shop for anyone looking for fashion products,” said Christopher North, managing director of Amazon UK. “We are committed to working with fashion brands of all sizes to provide a high quality, virtual shop window for their products, while offering the most compelling shopping experience for customers.”

Globally Amazon said it has 35m active customers shopping for clothes.
