Amazon’s sales and profits jump

Amazon made a first-quarter profit of $513m (£351m), compared to a loss of $57m (£39m) in the same period last year, as sales jumped 28%.

The etailer’s total sales hit $29.1bn (£19.8bn) in the three months to March 31 thanks to rising sales of Kindles and Fire tablets.

Revenue at the company’s cloud services arm was up 64% year-on-year to $2.5bn (£1.7bn).
