Essex-based womenswear independent Ambiance of Colchester is to close later this year after 30 years in business.
The two-time Drapers Independent Awards finalist is currently running a closing down Sale, with a view to closing the store by the end of the year.
Founder and owner Vicki Wheeler, who opened the store in 1985, is seeking a buyer for the 1,300 sq ft building at 87 Crouch Street, which includes 1,000 sq ft of retail space over two floors. Wheeler did not disclose a price for the property.
She said she plans to “substitute retail for relaxation.”
In addition to Wheeler, the business has four part time members of staff who will leave at the time of closing.
The store is aimed at the 40+ market and specialises in mother-of-the-bride occasionwear. It stocks brands including Marc Cain, Frank Lyman, Sahara and Bitte Kai Rand.
“Running Ambiance has been a pleasure and a truly amazing experience. Many of our customers have become friends and many friends have become customers,” said Wheeler.
“My loyal staff have been the backbone of the business and we have created a marvellous and close team who bring the ambiance to Ambiance.
“I will be spending my new-found time travelling and indulging myself in pursuits that have been outside of my time capacity until now.”
