American Apparel to relaunch in the UK

American Apparel is relaunching in the UK, two years after falling into administration.

The retailer is launching a new UK website on 23 April but has no plans to reopen UK stores.

The retailer said it is more focused on “body positivity and diversity” and will feature a wider size range and lower prices.

The intellectual property rights for the retailer, which focused on a “Made in the USA” branding, were bought by Canadian supplier Gildan Activewear in January 2017.

Formerly, all American Apparel products were made in the US, but the retailer now uses Gildan’s global supply chain.

The new collection will feature bestselling products “disco pants”, unisex hoodies and fisherman jumpers.

Gildan relaunched the US American Apparel website last year.

In December 2016 American Apparel closed all 13 of its UK branches, a month after appointing administrators for the UK arm of the business.
