American Eagle appoints new director

American Eagle Outfitters has appointed former Walmart executive Suja Chandrasekaran to its board of directors.

Chandrasekaran has been brought in as a non-executive director as the young fashion seeks to bolster its digital proposition. She was formerly global chief technology and data officer at Walmart.

“Suja brings vast information and digital technology expertise and a wealth of leadership experience in the global retail and consumer industries to our team,” said American Eagle executive chairman and CEO Jay Schottenstein. “We look forward to her insights and fresh perspective as we continue our strong momentum and further enhance our customer connectivity and digital capabilities.”

Chandrasekaran is currently chief information officer at FMCG giant Kimberly-Clark. Other former roles include global chief information officer at The Timberland Company and other C-Suite tech positions at PepsiCo and Nestle.

Her appointment brings the American Eagle board up to seven members.

Last year American Eagle closed all three of its UK stores and called time on its UK ecommerce platform. UK customers are now re-routed to its US website for purchases.
