US retailer American Eagle Outfitters has confirmed it will open its first UK stores this autumn, initially in three shopping centres, as revealed by Drapers earlier this month.
The stores will open at Bluewater in Kent, Westfield London and Westfield Stratford.
Bluewater co-owner Lend Lease said American Eagle had taken a 4,818 sq ft unit. The two Westfield units are thought to be about 10,000 sq ft each.
The Westfield stores will include shop-in-shops selling lingerie sub-brand Aerie.
Simon Nankervis, executive vice president of Americas and global country licensing at American Eagle, said he was confident the two brands would do well in the UK.
“We see a tremendous global appetite for American Eagle Outfitters and Aerie and believe our presence in three of the most popular shopping destinations in England will provide great exposure for us in this significant new market,” he said. “We are focused on profitably scaling our international growth and believe American Eagle will have great traction in the UK.”
American Eagle has more than 1,000 stores in the US, Canada, Mexico, China and Hong Kong, and through its website ships to 81 countries worldwide. It also has 82 franchise stores.
