Arcadia targets wholesale growth in Germany

Arcadia Group is turning to German-speaking countries for a boost in sales, as evidenced by a prominent presence at Berlin trade show Panorama last week.

Düsseldorf-based Loud Agency is representing the Arcadia labels Dorothy Perkins and Burton, targeting wholesale accounts in Germany and neighbouring countries. This follows strong sales of Dorothy Perkins, in particular, with Germany-based etailer Zalando.

“Germany loves Dorothy Perkins, so it is not surprising they want to push further,” said one Arcadia womenswear supplier. “They are one of the biggest brands on Zalando, so it is definitely something to capitalise on.”

Arcadia identified expansion in its wholesale arm as one its key priorities in its latest results, for the year to 26 August 2017. Parent company Taveta Investments reported a 42% drop in group operating profit before goodwill, amortisation and exceptional items, to £124.1m year on year. Total sales for the year fell 5.6% to £1.9bn.

Last month Arcadia decided not to renew its leases for its Dorothy Perkins, Burton, Wallis and Evans stores at Westfield London, in White City, leaving just the Topman/Topshop stores operating at the west London shopping centre.

Panorama was held on 3-5 July in Berlin. More than 800 brands showed spring 19 collections across 11 halls.

  • Who are they kidding? Arcadia brands are my longer relevant in their home UK market so why would they anticipate success in the German speaking area which is one of the most sophisticated in the world?

  • Bizarre comment, if i read correctly Topman/Topshop are no longer relevant and German speaking countries have the most sophisticated fashion markets in the World!!!!!

  • Difficult market as margins are lower and much more competition. Can't see what Arcadia offers to be honest.
