Arrogant Cat retail arm hits the buffers

The UK retail arm of womenswear brand Arrogant Cat has gone into administration due to cashflow problems after a drop in trade.

Arrogant Cat, which launched in 2001, operates three stores in London and employs 12 members of staff. Star-studded clients include celebrities Katie Price, Misha Barton, Alexa Chung and Pussy Cat Doll band member Kimberley Wyatt.

Arrogant Cat also wholesales at independents including Boudoir Boutique in Liverpool and is available on Asos. The wholesale arm is not affected by the administration. Arrogant Cat’s Hong Kong store and franchises in Denmark, Kuwait and Dubai are also unaffected.

Jason Baker and Geoff Rowley, partners at FRP Advisory were appointed joint administrators yesterday. FRP Advisory wants to finalise a sale within the next two weeks as a going concern.

Baker said: “There are currently no plans for any redundancies and the business will continue operating as normal.

“Arrogant Cat was forced into administration as a result of cashflow problems caused in part by the recession and a drop in trade. However it is a strong brand, has a loyal clientele and excellent trading locations; we are very hopeful of selling the business as a going-concern.”
