Asda CEO confirms he is stepping down

Asda chief executive Andy Clarke has confirmed he is exiting the supermarket.

Clarke will be replaced by incoming chief operating officer Roger Burnley, who is joining in October, according to Drapers’ sister title Retail Week.

Asda’s like-for-like sales fell by 5.7% for the three months ended March 30, leading to criticism from US-based parent company Walmart. It followed a 5.8% drop in like-for-like sales in the previous three months to January 1.
