Asda has promoted Fiona Lambert to vice president of product development design and Nick Jones to managing director of George, amid wider changes to its executive team.
The supermarket chain has promoted Barry Williams, currently chief merchandising officer for food to chief customer officer, while Andrew Moore has been promoted to chief merchandising officer, with food added to his current responsibilities for George and general merchandise.
Asda’s current chief customer officer Steve Smith has completed his secondment in the UK and will take on a role at the US group Walmart, which owns the supermarket.
Asda president and chief executive Andy Clarke made the changes to the team as the supermarket readies itself “for one of the toughest years for retailers in the UK”.
Lambert was previously vice president of George and George at Home and Jones was previously vice president of group strategy. Both will report to Andrew Moore.
Clarke said: “A retail business runs in cycles and as we start the year – one which promises to be the toughest year yet for our sector – I want stability at the top of the organisation through fewer, bigger leadership roles, which will speed up decision making in this highly competitive market.”
In a note to colleagues confirming the changes, Clarke concluded that “these changes will enable Asda to prosper in an increasingly competitive market by enabling faster decisions through streamlined structures where colleagues are empowered under the leadership of fewer, bigger leadership roles.”
