Ashley facing £14m lawsuit over alleged deal

Sports Direct owner Mike Ashley is facing a £14m lawsuit over an alleged deal made in a London pub in 2013.

The Financial Times has reported that the claim, which is from former investment banker Jeff Blue, relates to an alleged conversation in which Ashley is said to have promised a £15m payout if the Sports Direct share price hit £8 within three years. The case will be heard at the High Court today.

Blue claims Ashley made the pledge during a meeting at the Horse and Groom pub in Marylebone, London, the newspaper said. Ashley, however, denies any deal was made, with his defence calling the claims “extremely vague”.
