Asos adds its voice to fair trade campaign is gearing up to launch a capsule range of own-label ethical denim and jersey next week to coincide with Fairtrade Fortnight.

The latest to join the fair trade train, Asos is launching a range of jersey tops and Fairtrade-certified cotton jeans in both stretch bootcut and skinny styles.

The tops will come in two styles - a long-line scoop-neck vest and oversized slouchy T-shirt - and will be made from 100% organic cotton, printed with natural organic dyes in four designs.

The tops will be packaged in an organic cotton drawstring bag and priced from £18.

All jeans in the range will carry the Fairtrade Mark, which provides a guarantee that the cotton was produced and traded in accordance with international fair trade standards.

Asos will also stock a range of shoes from eco-friendly brand Terra Plana, and leather bags by fair trade brand VidaVida.

Asos head of buying for womenswear Moriamo Oshodi said shoppers were becoming increasingly interested in eco-friendly fashion. "This range is about giving our customers the opportunity to make a positive contribution by giving something back to the environment, or the community in which the garments were produced."

Fairtrade Fortnight is the Fairtrade Foundation's annual two-week campaign to build awareness of fair trading. The event begins on Monday.
