Asos sales up by one-fifth

Asos has continued to gain market share with a reported retail sales increase of 22% to £802.7m from £660.1m in the four months to 30 June year on year.

UK retail sales rose by 23% to £288m in the period, and by 22% to £702.5m in the 10 months to 30 June.

International sales grew by 21% to £514.7m in the four months to 30 June, and 26% in the 10 months to £1.2bn.

The etailer reported “continued strong customer engagement” with active customers – those that have shopped in the last 12 months – increasing by 20%, average basket value rising by 1% and average order frequency up 8%.

Its retail sales margin also rose 130 basis points ahead of expectations.

CEO Nick Beighton said: “We delivered good sales growth, particularly in the UK, better-than-planned gross margin alongside significant progress on our infrastructure investments.”
