This afternoon, the etailer was offering 50% off all new season products. However, the website promptly crashed.

The Asos holding page says the site isn’t currently available but the team is “doing everything [it] can to get to back up soon.”

  • Pure e-tailers use heavy discounting at the start of a season to generate new customers to their databases. These are key metrics for analysts.

It does hurt brands and the market in general, but brands cannot control the RSP. Only their supply in the first place.

Besides, big discounts help to offset customer guilt if they care about working conditions for warehouse staff.

Indeed, if recent news re. ASOS is true, authorities should also check the state of conditions in their own label factories.

  • ASOS are just market traders. No integrity or credibility by their extreme discounting because of their own failures of having the incorrect business model to sell any at remotely full price.
