Autumn chill fires up fashion sales

Chilly autumn weather and the back-to-school rush have boosted fashion sales for the week ending 10 September.

Clothing and footwear sales rose by 3.93%, which is compared to a 1.4% fall during the same week last year. Fashion sales have now been positive for five out of the six previous weeks, according to the latest data from the BDO High Street Sales Tracker.

Overall retail sales nudged up 0.6% while footfall remained relatively steady, increasing by 0.1%. High street and retail park footfall inched up by 0.5% and 0.3% respectively, but shopping centre footfall fell by 0.7%.
