Bacup wins licence for One Direction shoes

Bacup Shoe Direct has secured the licence to produce a range of shoes featuring the logo and images of pop group One Direction.

The deal will see Bacup design and manufacture slippers, sandals, flip flops and trainers on a made-to-order basis for supermarkets such as Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury, footwear stores like Shoezone and fast-fashion businesses New Look, Primark and Peacocks. Retail prices range from £4.99 for slippers to £20-plus for trainers.

Each style within the range, which is targeted at young and teenage girls, will have images of members of the band as well as the One Direction logo. The band will also feature in the advertising, with stock being readied for the run up to Christmas.

The licence, which Bacup secured from Global Merchandising Services, runs until 2015.

Neal Wells, national sales manager, said his design team was “flat out to meet demand”.
