Balmain names new chief executive

Parisian fashion house Balmain has appointed Massimo Piombini as its new chief executive, replacing Emmanuel Diemoz.

Piombini is already a member of Balmain’s board of directors. He has also been worldwide commercial director of Valentino since 2008.

“I am excited by this opportunity to form a part of the Balmain team, as the brand develops into a global leader in the luxury goods market,” said Piombini.

“Olivier Rousteing, Balmain’s creative director, has instilled a remarkable passion inside the house, overseeing the creation of a singular, recognisable spirit and silhouette, while always remaining focused on the mission of responding to the needs and desires of a new and diverse generation.”

Diemoz joined Balmain in 2000 and worked closely with the house’s previous chairman, Alain Hivelin, who has led the brand’s recent transformation.

Both Valentino and Balmain are owned by Qatari investment firm Mayhoola.
