BBC launches fashion project

The BBC has launched a project called Your Label to teach aspiring fashion designers about the industry.

The BBC, through its online resource Blast, has selected eight candidates from 1,500 applications to design and produce a fashion collection called Rogue & Rascal under the tutelage of Olaf Parker, creative director of menswear brand Burro.

The project will run for one season and culminate in a catwalk show at On/Off during London Fashion Week in September.

The eight candidates will take on different roles including managing director, production manager, sales director and designer.

BBC education executive Jane Quinn said: "This is the first Blast initiative which offers a unique approach to learning about how the fashion industry works. It provides first hand experience and insight into the business and creative demands of pulling a collection together. We are delighted to have secured the support of Olaf Parker to act as mentor to our team. His insight and experience will ensure that they develop knowledge and experience in what it takes to succeed in the fashion industry."
