Ben Sherman has entered the Chinese market, opening two stores in Shanghai.
One 1,200 sq ft store is located in the Hopson Mall in the Yang’Pu district, northern Shanghai. The other 818 sq ft store is in the Sogo department store in the central Jing’An district.
As reported by Drapers in June, MRH SpaRotica Groupé brokered a deal with the menswear brand’s US parent company Marquee Brands to distribute the British brand to the Greater China area.
On the decision to launch in Shanghai first, Stanley Chou, group general manager at MRH Sparotica, said: “These distinct retail destinations are prime for Ben Sherman, with an influential core of loyal millennial consumers. Sogo is amongst the top five department stores in mainland China.”
Another 30 stores are planned in the coming years. Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan and Sichuan are further locations that have been identified as targets.
