Ben Sherman owner acquires Body Glove

Ben Sherman owner, US-based Marquee Brands, has acquired the outdoor sports brand Body Glove and its related intellectual property assets.

Body Glove was established in California in 1953 by twin brothers Bob and Bill Meistrell, initially focusing on surf and outdoorwear. Having gradually evolved into a lifestyle label, it has a New York headquarters and a London design office.

Marquee will open an office on the US west coast for its management and marketing teams.

“While the brand is already ubiquitous and wildly successful, the opportunity to further expand its global footprint is at the core of our focus,” said Michael DeVirgilio, president of Marquee Brands. “There is tremendous growth ahead for Body Glove to develop new product categories that cater to a consumer that embraces life, the outdoors and an active lifestyle.”

The Meistrell family retains a minority interest in the brand and remain partners.

Marquee also owns Italian luxury footwear brand Bruno Magli and Ben Sherman.
