Bench halves UK head office team

Young fashion brand Bench has cut half of its head office team in Manchester, resulting in 60 redundancies, as the firm focuses on its growing German business.

The Bench UK team, previously made up of 120 people, is based in Tanzaro House in Manchester.

Bench has shifted roles from the UK to its office in Munich across various areas including ”design and communication” although have declined to give more details on the specifc roles involved. As a result the Munich team has grown from 40 people to 90 people.

A spokesman for Bench said: “Last year Bench announced its plans to expand the existing Munich operations as a second main business site of the company. This comprised of the relocation of important functions such as design and communication. This process has been implemented according to plan and is nearly complete. The reason for the relocation is the growing importance of the continental European markets for the brand.”

He added: “British heritage is and will remain an inherent part of Bench as a young fashion brand. Therefore, Bench will go on operating with two headquarters in Manchester and Munich.”

In March Bench moved to a new 32,291 sq ft office in the Neue Balan business park on Balanstrasse 73 in Munich.

Germany is the largest market for Bench making up approximately 30% of sales, followed by the UK which makes up 20% of sales. Its turnover is approximately €100m (£71m).
