The buying team at New York luxury department store Bergdorf Goodman has called off its summer buying trip to London because of safety concerns following terrorist attacks in the city, Drapers can reveal.
It is understood that Bergdorf Goodman will continue to make appointments with brands through virtual meetings.
A director at a premium men’s and womenswear agency said he was “not really surprised” by the news, adding that it would have a minimal effect: “US stores have only been coming to the UK to scout out opportunities in recent years, so I think there will be a limited impact.”
A director at an independent agency agreed: “We have found that US buyers tend to go to Paris for UK buying appointments. They usually come here specifically for presentations or shows.”
