The British Fashion Council has established a leadership team to support chief executive Caroline Rush, following the retirement of chief operating officer Simon Ward earlier this year.

The team will support CEO Caroline Rush

Clara Mercer, head of communications, will be promoted to communications director; Jenico Preston, former head of sponsorship, will move to commercial and Laura Strain will take the role of finance director.

The team will work directly with Rush on the development and resourcing of new projects, creating workflows to implement strategy set by the board, as well as review and manage internal skills and resources.

Rush said: “Earlier this year we bolstered our board of directors to improve governance and to assist in developing and setting strategy for the organisation. In order to deliver on the Board’s ambition, it is essential that we have a strong internal leadership team to ensure financially and operationally we remain agile and that in a changing industry we are in a position to not just adapt but to lead.”
