BHS.com to close

BHS.com, the website set up to continue the name of the collapsed high street retailer, is set to close, following a review by its Qatari owners.

The Al Mana group, which bought the global intellectual property rights, international franchising business and domain names for BHS in June 2016 following the high street chain’s collapse, launched BHS.com in September that year.

Following a business review, however, the company has announced that the website will take its last orders on 27 June, as the group focuses instead on “store-based business”, which includes franchises outside the UK under the BHS International name.

The news comes despite positive results for the ecommerce site, which recently reported a 23% rise in sales for the six months to 28 April, fuelled in part by strong womenswear performance. Gross profit also rose, up by 69%.

A spokesman for BHS commented: “The 18 members of our BHS.com team, along with all suppliers, will be treated fairly and equitably as the website is closed down. We’d like to thank our team, suppliers and our customers for all their support over the past 20 months.”

  • When you look back at BHS, I'm amazed it lasted as long as it did. It was a store for people who no longer existed.
