Bijou Brigitte in UK store push

German fashion accessories retailer Bijou Brigitte is poised to open up to 20 stores in the UK this year.

The retailer, which has more than 1,200 stores across Europe and competes with accessories chain Claire’s, already has four UK stores, in Bromley, Croydon, High Wycombe and Uxbridge.

It is scouting for stores of between 600 sq ft and 1,000 sq ft.

Property agent Cushman & Wakefield has been appointed to search for sites. Cushman & Wakefield associate Richard Willcox said: “Bijou Brigitte is one of continental Europe’s strongest retail brands. We’ll be looking for sites in high-quality shopping centres across the country.”

Parent company Bijou Brigitte Group floated on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in Germany in 1989. In the full 2009 year, the group said pre-tax profits were ¤108.9m (£94.6m), down 7.2% on the year before. Total sales rose 3.8% to ¤390.1m (£338.7m), driven by international store expansion. Like-for-like sales were down 3.5%.
