Billabong Europe has hired rival surf brand Quiksilver’s design manager Jean Kress as its European head of product and merchandising.
Kress spent 14 years at Quiksilver as design manager. Before that he was design manager at Rip Curl Europe for five years.
He will oversee Billabong Europeʼs design and development team and work on product ranges in collaboration with Billabong International, which is based in the US and Australia.
“Iʼm really excited because Billabong is an amazing brand and one that perfectly represents my personal values,” Kress said. “It is a great opportunity to collaborate with Billabong in Australia and the US to help build an innovative global range of products.”
Nicolas Burger has also been hired as Billabong’s new European sales manager. Burger was most recently EMEA head of sales at sports brand Fox Europe. Before that he worked in sales roles for 10 years at Nike.
“Billabong is an amazing brand with a long history and a unique connection to surf, fashion and action sports,” said Burger. “Our main goal is to stabilise our business in Europe.”
Billabong declined to confirm whether the roles are newly created or whether Kress and Burger are taking over existing roles.
