Birkenstock exits Amazon after counterfeit complaint

Footwear brand Birkenstock is discontinuing all business with Amazon Europe following counterfeit concerns.

Birkenstock will no longer work with the platform from 1 January.

In a statement issued today, the brand claimed there had been a “series of violations of law” on Amazon Marketplace, which the etailer had “failed to prevent”.

Birkenstock said it had previously lodged “a number of complaints” with Amazon that counterfeit products that infringed its trademark rights and “misled consumers” were being made available on the platform.

The brand said the “breakdown in trust” had led to it terminate its business with Amazon in Europe.

The US arm of Birkenstock stopped working with Amazon in January this year.

Drapers has contacted Amazon for a response.
