Blue Inc, Next and Claire’s shed most shopping centre stores in 2016

Blue Inc, Next and Claire’s Accessories are among the fashion retailers that shed the largest number of stores in shopping centres last year, new research has found.

Blue Inc closed 44 stores, Next closed 10 and Claire’s Accessories shut nine stores, according to a new report from retail property information firm Trevor Wood Associates.

“Along with the closure of all BHS stores, these results point towards a significant shift in the retailer landscape within UK shopping centres,” said Trevor Wood.

Australian stationery retailer Smiggle is the UK’s fastest expanding shopping centre retailer, having acquired 39 stores in 2016, taking its total number of UK stores to 73.
